Accepting travel requests for the Youth Ambassador Program


The County Department of Transportation partners with the National Youth Safety Organization, NOYS, to host the Vision Zero Youth Ambassador Program. Applications are due Nov. 30 and open to all county high school students according to a statement released by the county’s Department of Transportation.

The program wants to educate high school students across the county about road safety and the importance of road design, enforcement and education in achieving the goal of Vision Zero according to the release.

Ambassadors will develop leadership skills, learn awareness and engagement techniques, learn social media engagement skills and other techniques to address road safety needs in their community. Students will have the opportunity to meet county safety officials and Department of Transportation personnel. Ambassadors who complete the program will gain in-depth knowledge of Vision Zero and earn up to 40 hours of Student Service Learning (SSL), according to the statement.

Admitted students are required to attend the following mandatory sessions:

Orientation: January 7 (virtual)

Session 1: February 11 (in person)

Session 2: March 4 (in person)

Session 3: March 25 (virtual)

Session 4: April 29 (virtual)

Safety Day: May 13 (provisional)

Graduation: May 20
