CHICAGO- Auburn All-American Defenseman Alyssa Malonson has been called up to the U.S. Women’s National Under-23 Team camp, which will be held in Austin, Texas from January 23-28.
This is the second time Malonson has been called up to the U-23 squad having previously competed for the national youth team in spring 2019.
The U-23s will be part of a closed-door scrimmage against the full United States Women’s National Team at the end of training camp.
Malonson recently wrapped up his illustrious career at Auburn by being named the 2021 United Football Coaches United States Second Team and 2021 SEC Defenseman of the Year, becoming the fourth Conference Player of the Year in program history.
In her fifth and final season on the Plains, the four-time All-SEC winner set the program record for games played, games started and consecutive games started as she recorded 97 consecutive starts in her career. She also finished in the top 10 in career assists with 23.
After being drafted by NC Courage with the 20th overall pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft but ending her collegiate career last fall, Malonson’s rights were secured by OL Reign last week.
