The women’s showcase teams played their last games of the weekend, while the National League PRO teams played their second of three games of the weekend. Sunday saw plenty of exciting matchups that saw more teams earn qualifying spots for the USYS National Championships.

Chicago Inter 05 Red (IL) Head Coach Nermin Dautovic spoke about what it takes to win the National League PRO after his team secured a National Championships spot with their victory today.

“It’s quite a challenge,” Dautovic said. “It depends on where you play, which teams are from which states, who just finished their high school seasons, so you never know what to expect. Luckily the girls had a big fall and we were ready for the National League PRO and we had a really good shot in the first event and the girls were just full of confidence and kept working hard and were able to do it.

Dautovic also spoke about what it means for the team to qualify for the national championships.

“It means the world to the players,” Dautovic said. “They’ve been working so hard for years and with COVID-19 and other hurdles they haven’t had a chance to go to regionals, but this year we’re going to regionals in June as champions of the State Cup, but knowing that we will advance to the national championships is huge for them. The players will be full of confidence and as long as we stay healthy, we will work hard and I think we can make some noise. Playing in competitions like the National League PRO, we have learned that we can intervene in games that mean something. There is a difference between playing a friendly match and then playing matches in a national competition where you lose and you are eliminated. So, you can really see the character of the girls and see how good the competition is for building character.
