City of Pittsburgh: City creates grant program to support community sports programs for youth

PITTSBURGH, PA (June 29, 2021) Mayor William Peduto and City Council President Theresa Kail-Smith have proposed the creation of a new Youth Sports Grants program that will enable neighborhood and community sports organizations to request funding.

Many communities organize sports programs to provide development opportunities for young people, but running sports programs for young people can be expensive. Grants from this program can be used to fund operations and the purchase of equipment and uniforms. The program is budgeted to have $ 150,000 per year available for applications from community sports organizations and will be administered by the Department of Parks and Recreation.

“I would like to thank Mayor Peduto, Chief of Staff Dan Gilman and Director of the Office of Management and Budget Kevin Pawlos for initiating this investment for our city youth and my fellow city council members for their expected support.” , said board chairman Kail. -Black-smith. “I would also like to thank our coaches, families and volunteers who do important work for our young people and strengthen our communities by giving them the opportunity to be part of a team and who will now have additional municipal resources to continue their excellent work. . ”
