Early voting begins Monday, October 18 for Texans

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – Beginning vote in Grayson County begins next week, and this election includes some big decisions for the town of Sherman.

Anyone in Texas can go to the polls on Monday, October 18. For Sherman voters, there are strong local races on the ballot.

The first being the race for mayor; between outgoing president David Plyler, mayor since 2011 and city councilor Sandra Melton. Then the race to fill two seats on the grand council.

“Local elections are really the most important because they have the greatest impact,” said Tamie Hayes, Election Administrator for Grayson County. “What you do, where you play, where you work, all of these decisions.”

Hayes urges voters to educate themselves about statewide of Texas amendments 1 to 8, which include:

  • STATE OF TEXAS PROPOSAL 1: Potential changes to the charitable rules of the Professional Rodeo Association
  • STATE OF TEXAS PROPOSAL 2: Allow a county to pay for new infrastructure in unused areas
  • STATE OF TEXAS PROPOSAL 3: A new rule that would protect religious organizations from government shutdowns
  • STATE OF TEXAS PROPOSAL 4: Modifications of the requirements for judicial officers
  • STATE OF TEXAS PROPOSAL 5: Give the State Commission on Judicial Conduct the right to fulfill these requirements
  • STATE OF TEXAS PROPOSAL 6: In-person visiting rights in long-term care facilities, in the event of a government shutdown
  • STATE DU TEXAS PROPOSAL 7: Changes to the tax structure on housing for certain disabled widows
  • STATE OF TEXAS PROPOSAL 8: Modifications to the domicile of widows due to military service

In addition to the proposals, a school requirement at Pilot Point that would spend $ 38 million on a new transportation hub, renovating school buildings and purchasing a new property.

“We have provisions in place,” said Hayes. “So we can help you vote if you’re from another country, you can vote provisionally, limited ballots – anyway, we’ll help you vote.”

There will also be curbside voting available for those who cannot leave their vehicle.

“We’ll take the machine to the car, so you can vote there. We do this on all of our sites, all ballots are available. “

Hayes says she anticipates a great turnout and that there will be plenty of workers there to help out if you need them.

Here’s where and when you can vote in Grayson County:

Monday to Friday October 18 – 22, 2021, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday 23 October from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Sunday October 24, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Monday to Wednesday 25 – 27 October 2021 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thursday – Friday 28 – 29 October 2021 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
