Las Vegas Sands will donate $ 300,000 to fight youth homelessness, he said in an announcement Thursday.
Sands Cares, the charitable arm of the casino complex, commemorates the 20th anniversary of Nevada’s partnership for homeless youth with continued co-op funding this year, it said in a press release. The company and the nonprofit have partnered with initiatives to tackle youth homelessness, including a summit on the issue and a strategic plan for the region.
Sands’ donation will help NPHY strengthen its services and seek long-term solutions, the group said. The goal is to make the incidence of homelessness among young people “rare, brief, non-recurring and treated fairly,” the statement said.
Thursday’s donation is not Sands’ first to NPHY. Since prioritizing youth homelessness in 2015, Sands Cares has donated more than $ 1.7 million to NPHY, the statement said.
Ron Reese, senior vice president of global communications and corporate affairs at Sands, said the initiative is one of the “most significant” that Sands Cares has undertaken.
“We are deeply committed to making an impact on the incidence of youth homelessness in the Las Vegas Valley, and NPHY has been our strategic and valuable partner in leading this charge,” Reese said in a statement. “Our continued investment is representative of the extraordinary results we have seen NPHY achieve for vulnerable youth in our community, as well as its leadership in developing long-term solutions to address the problem. “
The 2021 donation will help close NPHY’s housing expansion campaign to offset rising property costs, a hurdle in the nonprofit’s plan to establish a transitional housing center, the statement said.
The remainder is for the production of the Southern Nevada Homeless Youth Summit; expanding NPHY’s overnight staffing model for its Safe Place programs, emergency shelters and transitional housing; and infrastructure support for critical operational areas such as grant administration, finance and facilities management.
Arash Ghafoori, executive director of NPHY, said the long-term support from Sands Cares has helped fuel the work of the organization. Las Vegas Sands co-hosts an annual Southern Nevada Youth Homelessness Summit with NPHY and helped spur the Movement to End Youth Homelessness in Southern Nevada, an initiative to end youth homelessness in the region.
“Without Sands we would not have been able to establish the Movement and the Summit – yet Sands’ involvement as a catalyst for the expansion of our offerings runs much deeper than these more visible programs,” Ghafoori said. “Sands has helped us develop our back-end infrastructure to sustainably support program expansion – a critical component to successful nonprofit management that is often overlooked. The company has been a true partner in the fight to end youth homelessness in Southern Nevada, not only as a donor, but as an investor and think tank in our work to move forward needle on this devastating problem in our community.
