Rochelle News-Leader | Letter: Thank you for using the bottle cap bench program

I would like to sincerely thank all the people who made the bottle cap recycling program possible.

They include Kiwanis Golden K, City of Rochelle, Rochelle Landfill Employees, Rochelle Township High School Key Club, Rochelle Middle School Builders Club, Creston Grade School Builders Club, Kings Grade School Builders Club, Methodist Church Youth Group, Mrs. Leah Vanstone and her friends, residents of Liberty Village and the many people who brought bottle caps, one as far away as Rockton.
George Washington Carver once said, “A weed is a plant whose full potential has not yet been realized.”

Our plastic is the weed of our generation. We must energize our young people and be part of the solution by turning plastic bottle caps into useful objects.
Our pick right now is six-foot park benches.
Benches are now on display at: North RTHS Cycle Path, RMS, Kings Grade School, Creston Grade School, Rochelle Rail Park (red stripe, fire department) and Rochelle Rail Park (blue stripe, police department). Other possibilities are tables, parking bumpers and landscaping lumber.
“We can either be part of the problem or part of the solution.”

-Dennis Swinton, Kiwanis Golden K
