Rock Hill offers a 2021 youth wrestling program. How to join

Rock Hill head coach Cain Beard watches from the sidelines as 5A wrestling titans Fort Mill and Rock Hill face off in 2019. Beard has done a lot to try and grow the sport of wrestling in Rock Hill.

The Rock Hill Bearcats wrestling program is once again offering its wrestling club to K-6 youth, and it has already started.

Rock Hill wrestling head coach Cain Beard said the initial registration period was over, but added that anyone can still register by going to a training session for to start.

The workouts, which are already underway, will be held at Rock Hill High School Old Gym on Tuesday and Thursday. Each training session takes place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Those interested in participating in the program can also call Beard at (803) -981-1300 or email him at tbeard at

Beard believes the program has been successful in the past and brings greater awareness to wrestling in the region. (Beard has done a lot to develop the sport of wrestling in York County. Among the most notable things he has done, he started the Rock Hill High girls’ wrestling program two years ago.)

“We have had a good number of participants in the past, and I hope it will be the same this year,” he said. “There are quite a few who are still involved in youth football. They will be able to join us when this season is over. All they have to do is show up for a workout and register.

He added that there is no limit to the number of participants they can take in the program, which is free. He also said the program was only open to people in School District 4 of Rock Hill High School.

“We are offering this as a way to encourage more young people to participate in as many sports as possible,” he said. “This program grows each year we offer it.”
