Rogers High School has announced the following students as the top 10 for the class of 2022.
Valedictorian — Olivia Peters
The valedictorian for the Rogers High School class of 2022 is Olivia Peters. Olivia is a member of the National Honor Society and the Rhode Island Honor Society. She received the Light of Scholarship Award, Harvard Book Award, Rensselaer Medal Award, and Outstanding Achievement in United States History in her freshman year.
Olivia is an AP Scholar who has always maintained high honors while being a three-letter varsity sports player in soccer, swimming, and outdoor track. She was captain of her swimming and soccer teams. Olivia is a member of the yearbook committee and volunteers as a member of the audiovisual production club broadcasting live sporting events.
Olivia will go to Boston College to study international relations.
Salutatorian — Sophie Breitenbach
The salutatorian for the Rogers High School Class of 2022 is Sophie Breitenbach. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Rhode Island Honor Society. Sophie received the prestigious Yale Book Award and Rogers Student Scholar Award in her freshman year, and attended the National Leadership Conference.
She received the Rogers High School Senior Art Award and the Physical Education/Health Sportsmanship Award. Sophie was class vice-president her last three years of high school. Sophie is a talented volleyball and indoor and outdoor varsity track athlete. In volleyball, Sophie was 1st team all-division, 3rd team all-state, player of the year, and MVP. She was captain of the volleyball team in both her junior and senior year.
Sophie will attend Endicott and study biology with a view to becoming a doctor. She will also play volleyball for Endicott.
Meghan Mureddu ranks 3rd in her class of 2022. Meghan is a member of the National Honor Society and the Rhode Island Honor Society. She has received the Rhode Island Civic Leadership Award, Outstanding United States History Award, Light of Leadership Award, Mathematics Award, and Class of 1941 American Government Award. She also received the OCTI badge for graphic design.
In 2020, Meghan won first place at the science fair, “How Does the Loft of a Golf Club Affect the Distance and Height Traveled by the Ball?” Meghan is the captain of the golf team and a varsity cheerleader. She has been a class officer since 2018, serving as class treasurer, prom committee, and student council president 2021 and 2022. Meghan is also on the yearbook staff.
Meghan volunteers at the Newport Recreation Department to entertain young children. She was recognized for her desire to study education by receiving the Senior Pin Award. Meghan has passed the National Vocational Proficiency Test after four years of hard work in the advertising and design class at Rogers High School.
Meghan will attend Castleton University in Vermont and major in secondary education, math.
Meghan ranks 4th in her class of 2022. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Rhode Island Honor Society. Meghan received the Bausch Lomb Award for Excellence in Science and the Salve Book Award for Academic Excellence and Character. Meghan received the Rogers High School Prolific Performer Award and the Outstanding Effort in Mathematics Award.
She is a member of varsity cross country and varsity indoor and outdoor track, serving as captain for both teams her senior year. Meghan is also an active member of the Rogers Theater Company. She attended the Young Women‘s Institute at Bernard’s Pre-College Program. Meghan completed an internship with Clean Ocean Access. Meghan volunteers with the Rogers High School Environmental Club and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.
Meghan will attend the University of Rhode Island and study environmental science.
Ellie ranks fifth in her class of 2022. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Rhode Island Honor Society. She has received the Wellesley College Book Award, Light of Service Award, AP Scholar Award, American Math Society for Outstanding Achievement in Math Award, Rogers High School Director Award for Theatre, and Pell Medal Award.
Ellie has served as French club president and class treasurer since 2018. She had been a member of the Rogers High School tennis team since 2018, serving as captain her senior year, as well as joining the golf team her senior year. She participated in mock trials and youth voices. Eleanor’s passion is dancing. She is a member of the Newport Academy of Ballet and the Junior Company of the Island Moving Company. She is involved with the Rogers Theater Company and the Newport Children’s Theatre.
Eleanor will attend Franklin University in Switzerland.
Amelia ranks sixth in her class of 2022. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Rhode Island Honor Society. She received the Distinguished Achievement Award in United States History in Spring 2021. Amelia received Outstanding Effort in Physical/Health Education. As Secretary of the Student Council for the past three years, Amelia has helped organize dances, pep rallies, and the ball.
Amelia is a three-letter varsity sports player: volleyball, track and field, and softball and a member of Ocean Pointe’s student youth group. Amelia volunteers at the Newport Recreation Center and Newport County Boys and Girls Clubs.
Amelia will attend Merrimack University to major in Nutritional Science in the Honors program.
Louis Murphy III
Louis ranks seventh in his class of 2022. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Rhode Island Honor Society. Louis received the United States History Achievement Award and the Society of Women Engineers Award. Louis recently received the Excellence Award in Personal Finance and the Outstanding Effort Award in Physical Education/Health.
He is a dedicated member of the indoor athletics and golf teams, serving as captain of his golf team during his junior and senior years. Louis volunteers his time to help the Rogers Boosters Club, St. Mary’s Church and Newport Little League.
Louis will attend the Dolan School of Business at Fairfield University to major in Business Administration.
Amanda ranks eighth in her class of 2022. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Rhode Island Honor Society. Amanda was the winner of the science fair in 2019. She received RI Affiliate Honorable Mention for the NCWIT for Aspiration in Computing in 2021 and 2022. She was also awarded the RIT computing Medal and Scholarship and the Junior Scholar award.
Amanda received the RHS Academy of Informational Technology Award. Amanda is a loyal member of Rogers High School Orchestra, theater and the Environmental Club. She interned at the NAACP Newport Branch.
Amanda will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute to study computer science.
Khatima ranks ninth in her class of 2022. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Rhode Island Honor Society. She received the Rogers High School Excellence in English Award and the Most Creative Artist Award. Khatima is a three-letter varsity member: volleyball, indoor and outdoor athletics, and cross-country. She is an active member of Rogers High School Theatre.
Khatima has taken courses at the Rhode Island School of Design and the New England Institute of Technology. She was a member of Model UN and Leadership through Westfield Academy. Khatima volunteers at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, the Potter League, and Trinity Church. Khatima passed the National Occupational Competency Institute test thanks to her four years of hard work in Rogers High School’s advertising and design program.
Khatima will attend Emerson College to major in Media Arts Production with a minor in Sociology/Anthropology
Madeline ranks 10th in her class of 2022. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Rhode Island Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society. Madeline was a college softball player during her four years of high school. Her senior year, she served as team captain.
Madeline served two years on student council to help organize the prom. She was involved in the RHS Environmental Club. Madeline volunteers with Newport Recreation, Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County and held a blood drive for her senior project.
Madeline will attend the University of Rhode Island.
