NEW BEDFORD – The Southeastern Massachusetts Youth Orchestras (SEMAYO), under the auspices of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, are teaming up with the New Bedford Recreation Department to present Music in the Parks this summer.
Music in the Parks is a program where children can get together and play music. The events will take place on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the playground of a different park in New Bedford each week.
Students who already play violin, viola, cello or bass can join us, and students who do not play a string instrument can take advantage of the many percussion instruments that will be available. Everyone is welcome to play and explore something new, exciting and fun.
The program will be led by Youth Orchestra Coordinator Charlene Monte, assisted by SEMAYO alumni Sarah Nichols, Lindsey Mello and Bradley Palmer. The emphasis will be on chamber music, violin styles and pop tunes.
